• Durability:
  Attention to detail and creating a special, unique piece that will be passed down from generation to generation.

• Biodegradability:
  Priority given to natural fabrics and yarns, avoiding synthetics such as polyester and derivatives as much as possible.*

• Animal-based materials:
  We prioritize biodegradability, so we use animal-based fabrics and threads such as silk and wool, purchasing them in small quantities and taking their origin into account. The rest of our animal-based materials do not come from the industrial market: feathers are found (and treated) and leather is recovered either from garments or from scraps from previous years.

• Waste minimisation:
  Most of Beruta's pieces are unique, so there is no surplus production. Print runs are very small and sales are prioritised on a made-to-order basis. In addition, there are countless occasions when the “leftovers” from one piece give life to a new one.

• Recoverability:
  The pieces are assembled using a needle and thread—no glues or adhesives—which facilitates the reuse of materials and the repair of parts.

• Local economy:
  Priority is given to purchasing from local distributors due to their proximity and direct contact. As Atelier Beruta is located in a small town, it is not always possible to find organic fabrics, highly specialised materials and/or materials that can be purchased in small quantities.

*Improvements underway: the filling used in the pieces is polyfill; wadding has already been replaced by organic materials such as bamboo and cotton, but a sufficiently fine natural substitute for the filling has not yet been found.
